Chemical Composition of Different Extracts of <i>Conyza bonariensis</i>: Insecticidal and Nematicidal Activities

C. bonariensis (L.) Cronq. known as hairy fleabane was first described in Argentina but it is now widely spread through most warmer regions of Europe, Africa, Asia, the Caribbean and Central America. In this work, a chemical analysis by liquid gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry whole plant, aerial part, flowers roots extracts harvested Togo (West Africa) carried out. Two acetylenic compounds Lachnophyllum ester limonene were identified main components essential oils while Matricaria lactones dominant chloroform extracts. Based on plant compositions, tested cowpea weevil Callosobruchus maculatus adults which are considered one cosmopolitan pests stored beans, freshly hatched second-stage juveniles root-knot nematode Meloidogyne incognita. Results showed that oil demonstrated an LC50/24h value 1.75 μL oil/L air at 3.91 air, 100% mortality. Furthermore, root partitioned diethyl ether-hexane mixture strongest nematicidal activity LC50/72h 0.47 mg/mL. Our findings suggest diffused its constituents could be potent botanical insecticidal agents.
